It’s an adorable adornment for any table, counter or cubicle!

empty 2-liter soda bottle

2 red craft foam sheets (5 ½ inches x 8 ½ inches)

letter foam stickers

heart foam stickers

small glitter poms

marker

hot glue gun

old newspaper

scissors

ruler

How to Make this Sweets Candy Dish Craft

Measuring the Soda Bottle

Ask an adult to plug in the hot glue gun and place it over an old newspaper or sheet of paper. While waiting for the glue gun to heat up, carefully remove the label from the soda bottle. Then wash it and dry it. Using the ruler and marker, measure and mark 5” up from the bottom of the soda bottle.

Pierce the soda bottle with the tip of the scissors. Cut along the top in a straight line. TIP: Make a dotted line to help guide you while you’re cutting off the top of the soda bottle.

The base for your Sweets Candy Dish should look just like this.

Measuring What to Cut Off on the Red Foam

Marking What to Cut Off on the Red Foam

Now you need to cut the red foam to fit the base. Measure and mark 5” up from the bottom of the long side of one craft foam sheet. Mark a few different spots. Use the ruler and marker to connect the dots. This will make cutting in a straight line much easier. Repeat with the other foam sheet.

Heart Shape on Red Foam

Draw a medium-sized heart shape on one foam sheet. Make sure it is centered. Later on you will be cutting away excess foam, and you don’t want to lose your heart! Also, draw on the same side as before; you will use the clean side—the side without any markings—as the exterior.

Fold the foam sheet in half at the center of the heart and cut. Unfold the foam sheet.

Multiple Heart Shapes on the Red Foam

On the second foam sheet, draw and cut out a couple of smaller heart shapes. Repeat the steps you just did with the first foam sheet.

Adding Glue to the Red Foam Covering

Wrapping the Red Foam Around the Base

Take the foam sheet with the multiple hearts on it. Place it yucky-side up—the side with the marks from the marker. Have an adult apply glue with the glue gun. Press the red foam against the soda bottle and hold for a few seconds, making sure that you cover any part of the label you were unable to get off earlier.

Hold the second foam sheet up to base as shown, yucky-side facing outward. Mark where it overlaps on each end with the other foam sheet. Draw lines on the second foam sheet to help guide you while you cut off the excess foam.

Prepping the Foam Letters and Stickers

Have an adult apply glue with the glue gun. Press the red foam against the uncovered side of your Sweets Candy Dish.

Next, lay out the stickers you want to use. Use whatever colors you want. For color coordination reasons, we find it easiest to spell out words and stack the heart stickers on top of each other before removing the adhesive. We double-stacked and triple-stacked the heart stickers and spelled out “SWEETS” above the biggest heart.

Organizing the Small Glitter Poms

Gluing Poms onto Sweets Candy Dish

Your last step is to decorate your Sweets Candy Dish with small glitter poms. Arrange the poms in the order you want them along the top edge of your Sweets Candy Dish. Have an adult apply glue with the glue gun. Then press the poms along the rim of the candy dish top.

Now fill your Sweets Candy Dish with treats and put it on display!

I wish I owed a Cricut. This wonderous paper cutting device makes amazing crafts out of the simplest things. I’m a patient paper cutter – but no way could I do everything a Cricut does! Here are 24 Cricut paper cutting crafts, most on the simple side so that kids can do them. While the Cricut obviously requires adult assistance, the resulting work will look so good that your kids will be extra proud of their accomplishments! There’s a section for each major holiday – Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and Easter, along with a few general everyday Cricut crafts.

I’ve tried to find Cricut craft projects that don’t require a big investment in more cartridges, though some do, of course. Several of them offer free template downloads or instructions on how to create the projects on your own. Also, some of these patterns are just as easily made on other paper cutting craft tools, such as the Gypsy and Cuttlebug.

Valentine Mailbox Ideas

Wedding Favor & Valentine’s Day Heart Gift Box Cones

To celebrate the season of love, I created a favor cone with a heart shape on top. It’s great for wedding shower favor boxes, or alternatively would be equally awesome to house Valentine’s Day treats.

The print on the paper in the photo was some leftover scrapbooking paper I had laying around. You can print the box template on the back of any printed/plain/colored paper to make your favor cones look however you want. They are super simple to assemble, but I do highly recommend scoring the folds before you start, because the bottom corner gets awfully tight. After that, just fold, glue the flap, and tie the hearts together on top with some ribbon.

Alternatively print it on blank paper and let the kids decorate it themselves!

Valentine Gifts Kids Can Make

I swear in these dark and dreary January days, Valentine’s Day is one of the only bright spots to look forward to! I haven’t been able to do as much crafting as I like lately – my craft room is still in the midst of a huge redecoration/reorganization. I’m waiting on a few checks so that I can grab my last major purchase – a desk for my sewing machine. I’m hoping it will all be done soon so that I can get some Valentine creativity in before February 14th!

My kids have their own work area, and my littlest daughter is especially antsy to get crafting again. She loves making presents for her teachers, friends, papa and grandma – and me! Once I show her these links she will be busy for hours.
